SWOT analysis

A tangible sense of belonging at the mobile age.

 

Strengths

  • Historic (could be weakness?)

  • Diversity in plants

  • Diversity in people

  • Have spartan pride as spirit

  • Lots of people/Density (Weekends are great to see people tailgating on campus, students live in dorms)

  • great facilities 

  • large open space at north campus

  • different sense of place across the campus

 

Weaknesses

  • Lack of public transportation (Parking space separates pedestrians, Pedestrian experience is not complete, The center of campus is a parking lot, bikes

  • Not a collaborate environment (The academic district currently does not encourage collaboration among different majors)

  • Large place/space (The campus is too big so it takes time to get along, take up too much land but feels open, freedom)

  • (Everything is big) Students are not well connected because of the large space and the transportation system

  • The campus landscape needs lots of maintenance

 

Opportunities

  • Students are technologically advanced

  • University is a place to test new ideas (new ways of teaching)

  • Students want to have a better experience

  • VR and AR technology is near its final stage for customers

  • Popularity of social media and mobile devices makes us mobile

  • There are integrative learning programs and liberal art colleges on campus

  • The campus is going Spartan Green (being more sustainable)

  • Old structures needs renovation

  • To give new ideas for the campus community

  • different users meet on campus through a variety of programs

  • The physical campus is constantly changing and the university has control over it.

  • Attachment to physical space evokes emotions different than mobile experience (tangible, sense of belonging)

 

Threats

  • The existing site is hard to manage

  • We still don’t know the side effects of a virtual environment

  • How to define the experience?

  • Sometimes weather hurts the outdoor experience

  • funding at a campus wide decision making standpoint

  • The community around our school is accustomed to our campus
